Mission Accomplished

Well, it's official. The pacifiers are all gone. Thanks, Santa. Lydia loaded them up in her stocking on Christmas Eve with Madeline's help. In return, Santa brought her a Dora the Explorer toddler bed (along with just a few other items for her and Madeline). Madeline is most excited about her Baby Alive doll that Santa brought and has been doing lots of feeding and diapering. Yes, she really pees and poops!
And here is a picture of Lydia stealing the show at the Christmas Eve service. She's dressed as an angel and the closing song was Angels We Have Heard On High. What's interesting about this is that just minutes before the service, she was having a tremendous fit....nothing or nobody could make her happy. But when it was showtime, she changed her tune and cooperated, walking up to the front of the church with Madeline and me. David was a wise man. When it was time for us to sit down, she decided she liked it better on stage. Go figure.

Child Labor?

With the unseasonably warm weather on Sunday, David took advantage of it and did some much needed yard work. He also took advantage of his very energetic helpers and put them to work.
Here are the girls at the Smithfield Christmas Parade.
And here is Little Red Riding Hood..........(Madeline was Lydia's stylist for this costume). Tonight they were running around the house just squealing. When I finally caught a glimpse, Madeline was Santa and Lydia was the sole reindeer. Unfortunately, they switched their imaginative gears before I could snap a picture. They are really getting excited about Christmas. Madeline is really grasping that it's only a few days away. Tomorrow should be fun. We've got lots of cupcakes to bake for two parties on Wednesday.

What We've Been Up To

The Meadow Lights......I think we've now started a Christmas tradition of visiting the Meadow Lights after the preschool Christmas program. The girls loved it....especially the train ride.
Holiday are my little kitchen helpers.
And my kitchen beggar!
Singing............... Madeline sang her little heart out at her preschool Christmas program.

These two princesses went to see the Disney Princesses on Ice on Sunday. It was a huge hit.
Madeline was very attentive, taking every bit of it in.....she was especially fascinated by Ursula, the sea witch (from Little Mermaid) and the "mean witch" (Maleficent) from Sleeping Beauty.
Lydia was attentive, as well....and had no problem multi-tasking (eating popcorn and watching the show).

We had breakfast with Santa at church on Saturday. Both girls talked to him and Madeline made sure he knew all the things on her and Lydia's wish list. We then made a gingerbread house. Madeline was really into it, since she just loves arts and crafts. Lydia was literally "into" it she kept taking the candy off of the house and eating it and licking all the icing. It was like taking two steps forward and ten steps back. Finally, David took her elsewhere and kept her distracted long enough for me and Madeline to finish it. It was a challenge, but it was fun.

It's Beginning to Look Alot Like Christmas

We've been busy, busy. But that hasn't slowed these two down one bit. The calendar is full of things to do and places to go. Madeline keeps asking how much longer 'til Christmas. I guess it seems like forever to her, but will be too soon for Lydia when she realizes the pacis will be gone. We've been telling her that Santa is going to take her pacis and trade them out for toys. We hope it works as well with her as it did Madeline. I think she's planning on keeping a few planted in various places. Their excitement is building. Believe it or not, we managed to put some gifts under the tree last night and so far, so good. I think it helped that I let the girls take turns putting them under the tree(while preaching and quizzing the entire time about waiting 'til Christmas to open them). I snapped these pictures Sunday morning before church. Thanks, Grandma for the cute dresses!
Madeline actually enjoys having her picture taken and is very cooperative.
Lydia, on the other hand, is not as cooperative. So I take what I can get.

the view from our kitchen window

Yes! It's Santa Snoopy & he is proudly perched atop the girls' play set. David constructed a platform for him (aka chimney). Now we just need to add the faux brick linoleum (compliments of Grandma). All our decorations are up, thanks to our helpers. Kasey wasn't a lot of help, but she had the Christmas spirit.

Madeline has been obsessed with looking at her baby book lately. Since I don't have any "new" pictures to share today, I thought I'd flashback to their newborn days. Hopefully, in the next few days I can post a picture of our Snoopy Santa who is perched on top of the girls' outdoor playset.
In case you can't tell, the top picture is Madeline and the bottom one is Lydia.

Next up: Christmas!

We just got all the Christmas decorations out of the attic today. David and the girls might start on the tree while I'm at work tonight. Madeline and Lydia are so excited. They are having so much fun digging through the boxes. Madeline keeps saying " You know what comes after Thanksgiving? Christmas!" Yep.... ready or not, here it comes.

......said with a mouthful of cookie. And that's a mixture of candy corn and drool on Lydia's chin. I try to pick the best pictures for posting, but this is the best out of several that I took yesterday during their Thanksgiving festivities at preschool and MMO. I finally got this picture when we got home. Madeline was proud of her Indian princess costume that she made and wore it for a good part of the afternoon.

Something to Cheer About

We took the girls to the Carolina basketball game on Sunday. They did great! Surprisingly, they were not too wiggly and pretty much stayed in their seats. I had already prepared myself to chase Lydia around the concourse of the Dean Dome, but she was pretty tame for her standards. This was her first Carolina game. The highlight of their day was not the game, but the bus ride to the game on the Tarheel Express.
My Carolina Girls. Madeline is sporting a vintage Carolina cheerleader dress, compliments of Aunt Leslie. Lydia is wearing none other than a hand-me-down from Madeline.
Madeline had to test the dress with a few twirls and cheers before we headed to the game.
Waiting for the bus with Daddy. After the game we drove through campus and pointed out to Madeline our old dorm. We then drove by our old house on Cascade Drive. It was a fun day. However, it didn't take us very long to remember why we don't miss living there and being in that traffic!

Flashback Friday

Carolina Girls! Ahhhh....aren't they cute? This was taken two years ago. Thought I'd post this picture to wish the Heels good luck against State for Saturday's football game. At least basketball season is off to a good start.

The girls spent most of the afternoon playing "circus". In this picture, they're on the tightrope. They always have the most fun when they imagine. Hopefully, Madeline's dance lessons are helping with her balance and coordination.

Here they are being all serious with their books before bedtime and......

.........before the silly giggles started (that seemed to last forever)!

Shrinky Dinks and Lack of Sleep

We did shrinky dinks last night. Madeline insisted on making the characters from the Wizard of Oz......very popular with her these days. Actually, as I sit here and type this, she is watching The Wizard of Oz. I traced characters from her book and she gladly colored them in. Lydia colored a fish. I got the girls some Dora stick-on earrings and Lydia loved hers so much that she didn't want to take them off before she went to bed. I snapped this picture while she was sleeping last night to show David her earrings. Little did I know I would be going in to put her back to bed at 2am,4am and finally, we were up at 5am........and have been up ever since. When I went in at 5am, she said she wanted supper! Sorry, at 5am she got goldfish and string cheese! Somehow, she got all messed up with her sleep. Hopefully we'll get back on track tonight.

Time for a Trim

Madeline was such a great helper when I trimmed Lydia's hair the other night. She went and got the mirror so Lydia could see her new hairstyle and provided Lydia with fruit snacks and a special Hello Kitty hair bow. Lydia did pretty well for her wiggly self. She said she was at the "Booty Shoppe". Abby was attentive as well (there was food involved).

Chilled Out

It doesn't get any better than this. Kasey, our three-legged wonder dog is oh-so tolerant when it comes to the girls. I don't know who is more comfy in this picture....Lydia (with her two pacis) or Kasey. It's a good thing that David snapped the picture when he did, because about five seconds later, this quiet moment was history.

Thursday, November 02, 2006

I was just browsing through some pictures of the girls from a couple of years ago. They made me smile, so I had to share. I love how Lydia just blends in with her stuffed animals. And if you hadn't already figured it out, Madeline is "nursing" her baby.

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

What a day! The girls had a fun-filled day as Stephanie (from the cartoon Lazytown) and Minnie Mouse. They stayed in their costumes all day.....never even had on "regular" clothes. The day started with dressing up for dance lessons in the morning, afternoon visits with Grandma & Grandpa at work (and Aunt Leslie), the Clayton Halloween parade and Main Street Trick or Treat and finally....trick or treating in our own neighborhood. We finally got home around 8:30, scarfed down some pizza and put them to bed. They were exhausted but held up really well. They didn't even get too much of a sugar high, because they were too busy collecting candy instead of eating it. I guess that will start tomorrow.

Pumpkin Fun

We carved pumpkins this afternoon. We had planned to do it yesterday, but it was too rainy outside. Madeline wanted the "ghost" from the stencil kit I bought. Lydia's is the traditional jack-o-lantern. They had fun scooping out the seeds and then proceeding to make their own witch's brew consisting of seeds, pumpkin carvings and of course, dirt and pine straw.

Countdown to Halloween

Here's a sneak peek at Lydia's costume for Halloween. I just finished making her shoes tonight with craft foam. She has her Halloween party at school tomorrow and is going to dress up as Minnie Mouse. Madeline's fake teeth gave me a good 'ol belly laugh today.

Pumpkin Patch

We went to the pumpkin patch on Friday. The girls had fun picking out their own pumpkins, feeding the goats, going inside the big inflatable pumpkin and going through the hay maze. That afternoon, Madeline helped David give Kasey a much needed bath while Lydia napped. Check out more pictures on flickr.

Thrill Seekers

We went to the state fair today. The girls had so much fun. We're off to the pumpkin patch tomorrow. For more pics, click here.
