Merry Christmas!!

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas. The girls are asleep and Santa's work is done. It's 1am. Hopefully we'll get a few solid hours of sleep before they hop out of bed. They were excited, to say the least, before bedtime! Will post more pictures after Christmas.

A Visit with Santa

On Saturday, we had Breakfast with Santa at church. Lydia stormed right in asking, where is Santa? She found him eating pancakes at a table and went right up to him and started talking and telling him what she wanted for Christmas.

She was not shy, at all!

After the girls' first picture with Santa, Madeline informed me that she didn't get to tell him what she wanted. So she went back up to Santa to make sure he knew. Here she is telling him her list.

And a nice picture afterwards.

Lydia grabbed another hug before we left.

Little Voices

The girls have been singing all week! They started on Sunday with their Children's Choir performance at church. Here's a picture of some of the kids practicing Sunday morning.

On Tuesday night, Madeline had her Christmas Program at school. It was "Christmas on Candy Cane Lane". She had two lines and did very well!

Lydia's preschool Christmas Program was last night. She did great, even though she yawned about as much as she sang.

After her program, it was on to Christmas Caroling with Children's Choir. Lydia perked up for that and the kids did a great job. Everyone was so glad that we came to sing for them.

High School Musical on Ice

On Thursday night, we took the girls to see High School Musical on Ice. They loved it! I guess it's the "Grease" for this generation. There were two little girls sitting behind us that knew the words to every.single. song. Madeline and Lydia sported their HSM t-hirts and took turns wearing the sparkly hat that came with their cotton candy.

The first half was HSM and the second half was HSM 2.
They loved it. In fact, Madeline got up Friday morning saying she wanted to go see it again. Maybe next year...

Meet Jingles

Today, this package arrived at our doorstep. It's a book called The Elf on the Shelf. Check it out at www.elfontheshelf.com We read the book and then we went in search of the elf .

Apparently, he arrived when I went to pick up Madeline from school. After a couple of minutes of looking, Madeline found him. The girls named him Jingles. Jingles has special Christmas magic. You cannot touch him or he'll lose his magic. He watches you and flies back to the North Pole each night while you're sleeping to report to Santa. Each morning, he is perched in a new spot to watch and observe naughty and nice behavior.

The girls were in awe and stood in front of him for about 20 minutes, asking lots of questions. Hopefully, there will be lots of good behavior now that Jingles is here!

Getting in the Spirit

We've had our Christmas decorations up for a few days now and the girls are starting to get into the spirit. They're even wearing their Christmas pajamas. The other night they posed for some pictures by the Christmas tree.

About time....

......for a post, that is! I know it's been two weeks and I've been meaning to post pictures, but I'm just now getting around to it. Here's a glimpse of what's been going on the past two weeks. Silly-willies wearing one bath robe.

Lydia helping herself to the frosting.

Lydia posing with Caroline. We babysat Caroline last week for a couple of days and loved every minute of it!

A New Smile

FINALLY! The loose tooth came out! Madeline had a loose tooth for the past few weeks. Yesterday when I picked her up from school, she told me it was wiggling more. She was even a little whiny about it and kept saying it was hurting. During dinner, she was whiny about it, as well. She wouldn't let us touch it, but she wouldn't stop talking about it either. After her bath, she was getting ready to brush her teeth and was starting to get anxious again. Upon closer inspection, I could see that it was really hanging on by a thread of gum tissue. I convinced her to look in the mirror. She tried pulling it out herself, but just couldn't quite get her nerve up. Finally, she asked me to pull it out. And in a blink...it was out. She was SOOOO excited and said it didn't even hurt or tickle. And she was even more excited this morning when she found the dollar that that Tooth Fairy left under her pillow.

A Letter To Jesus

Lydia was doodling on a piece of paper this morning and asked me for an envelope. When I asked her why she needed an envelope, she said she had a letter for Jesus. She asked me to write Jesus on the envelope. And of course, that was followed by a trip to the mailbox in her PJs to mail her letter.
Here's a picture of Madeline doing her homework last night. For now, she is excited about homework.

Last night's assignment: practice writing Gg five times. I think she's doing great!

Happy Halloween!

Here's a sneak peak of what the girls will be dressed up as tonight when they go trick-or-treating. This picture was a freebie, compliments of The Picture People. Lydia's a girl pirate and Madeline's a High School Musical Cheerleader (East High School).

On Monday, we carved pumpkins. Of course, their favorite part was scooping out all of the seeds.

We carved three pumpkins....a scar face pumpkin, a boo pumpkin, and a classic jack-o-lantern.

We lit them last night.

Have a spook-tacular Halloween!

Flashback Friday

Halloween 2004

Here are the girls three years ago dressed up as Barney and Baby Bop for Halloween. I took advantage of having them complement each other for a couple of years, before they took more interest in what they wanted to dress up as. This year, we have about as opposite as you can get...... a cheerleader and a pirate.

Fall Bazaar

Last night we had a Fall Bazaar at church. The girls dressed up for the occasion and participated in lots of activities. Pirate Lydia getting a Jesus tattoo.

Field Trip

The Kindergarten classes went on a field trip yesterday to Dean's Farm Market in Wilson. It was the perfect day for a field trip. Madeline really liked riding the school bus to Wilson. She picked out a pumpkin, visited the petting zoo, had a picnic lunch and played with all of her friends. She's already wanting to carve her pumpkin. With all the warm weather, we're going to do that just before Halloween.

Busy, Busy

October has been jam packed with happenings and events almost everyday. With that said, that's why I haven't posted in over a week. Here are a few pics from this week.
Madeline scooped up these mums that were broken off of the plant. You can't tell from this picture, but she now has a loose tooth. That's been a BIG deal this week.

Lydia showing off her hot pink boots. She loves these so much and even wore them to dance lessons that day. She did eventually change into her dance shoes.

David and me at Hawksbill Mountain. The hike up there was strenuous, but definitely worth it! I did upload some pics on flickr of our anniversary trip to Asheville.

Today is our 10th wedding anniversary. This morning I was explaining to the girls that it's kind of like a birthday of the day you got married. After my explanation, Lydia said, "Oh, I gotta go tell Daddy to get up so he can get married!" I uploaded some of our wedding day pictures to flickr. Today is also my one year blogiversary (as they say in the blogger world).

Our Weekend in the Mountains

We spent the weekend in the NC mountains. It was our first time camping in our new (used) pop-up! It was great! It was definitely a few steps up from tent camping.....HOT water, refrigerator, and cable TV! The girls loved it and had so much fun just running around the campground. Lydia was thrilled because there were lots of rocks, sticks and dirt.
On Saturday, we took a short hike down to this waterfall....Elk River Falls!

On Sunday, we visited Grandfather Mountain. The girls did great there, especially after being lectured about the importance of holding hands to avoid a trip to the hospital.
The highlight of the weekend was on Saturday when we surprised the girls and took them to Autumn at Oz. Of course, they dressed up and got all involved. We met lots of characters (all of them were great and very interactive). We got to go inside Auntie Em and Uncle Henry's farmhouse, experience the tornado and stroll down the yellow brick road.
It was a fun and memorable weekend. To see more pictures from our trip, click here.
