On a Happier Note....

Thanks everyone for the sweet comments, cards, calls, and e-mails about Kasey. We do miss her but have some great memories. I must say I was relieved that during the snow, we weren't having to drag poor Kasey in and out of the house in the snow! In her younger days, she loved the snow, but had she been around for it this time, she most likely would have been miserable. However, the girls had a blast in the snow. The last time we had any snow to speak of, Madeline was almost 2. She doesn't remember it. So this was really the girls' first REAL snow. They had fun playing in it. We even made snow cream and a snow man. To see pictures from our snow days, click here.
This post is going to be a bit random because I realized there are several pictures that I never got around to posting. So here goes.......
The girls congregate in our bed first thing every morning. It's become the meeting place where we start our day and I start reciting the regulars: What do you want for breakfast? Put your clothes on. Have you brushed your teeth? No you can't have a fudge round for breakfast! Hurry Up!, etc., etc....

On Christmas Eve, Madeline and Lydia helped Grandpa ring the bell for the Salvation Army at Carolina Pottery. They seemed to enjoy it. Plus Grandpa got them out of my hair for a bit so I could focus on last minute Christmas preparations.

I got to babysit Brayden for the first time while his mommy went for a hair appointment. He was such a good boy. He even took a nap and never fussed. Of course, I had my little helpers nearby. He had one little tiny damp spot on his outfit and Madeline was immediately finding a change of clothes for him from his diaper bag.

I guess this is what it would be like with twins! Margo didn't seem to mind sharing me.

The weekend after New Year's we spent some time with David's mother's side of the family and went to see David's grandmother. To the girls, she is "Great Grandma". This was her first time meeting Margo. It was good to see her and I think she enjoyed seeing us.

This is definitely picture worthy!!! This is the first time EVER that Margo has fallen asleep on the floor while playing. Unfortunately she is not a great napper. She catches a lot in the car, and on the go. We're doing good if she sleeps over 30 minutes at a time. However, she does sleep about 12 hours each night. We thought that was coming to an end because right after Christmas, she started waking up in the middle of the night. She would usually go back to sleep after holding, rocking or feeding. But there were a couple of times where she would be up for a couple of hours. We gave her a couple of weeks, thinking maybe it was a growth spurt. Well, after about three weeks, it was getting to be pretty old. So what did we do??? We introduced her to the Ferber Method! That's right. Hopefully, I'm not jinxing myself, but we did it Sunday night at bedtime and once in the middle of the night and now she's back to her old self.....sleeping 12 hours!!! Thank goodness. And if she starts waking up again, Ferber it is!

Margo is starting to feed herself some. She loves these snacks called Baby Mum Mums. They dissolve really quickly. She also loves crackers and bread. She can put a hurtin' on a Cracker Barrel biscuit too. Well, who cant??? They're so good.

Any day now, she is going to start crawling. I can't believe I just typed that. But she has totally mastered getting up on her hands and knees, and rocking back and forth. Once she gets her arms and legs in sync, we're in trouble. And I need to do some serious baby proofing.

Little imaginations never cease to amaze me. Can you guess who the girls were dressed up as?
Mary and Joseph!

Lydia made sure she portrayed Mary appropriately. If you ask me, I think she's carrying that baby a little high!

Lydia recruited her Curious George stuffed animal to play the part of baby Jesus. Of course, Jesus needed to eat after he was born! That Lydia is a hoot!!!

Happy Friday!

Dogless

For the first time in over eleven years, we are dogless. Sadly, on Monday we had to put Kasey down. David was having to pick her up and carry her in and out. She could only scoot around the house and she didn't even want to go outside. Her one back leg that had been the workhorse for all these years had given out. When David and I walked into the vet with her, the same awful feeling came over us that did just 10 months ago when we had to put Abby down. Our dogs were a huge part of our lives and our family. We miss them terribly, but know they are better off now. They had good lives. We loved them and they loved us.

So long, Kasey. May you run on all four legs and reunite with Abby in doggie heaven. Below is a photo tribute to Kasey.

Fun With Flickr

I've always wanted to make a photo mosaic for the blog. With all the pictures that have been taken lately, it was the perfect opportunity. The above pics are some from Margo's 6 months photo session.

These are the mother/daughter pictures we had done at Lundies. I have done these pics with all three girls now.

This is one I did for fun. I took one of my baby pictures and "Warholized" it!
Check out http://www.bighugelabs.com/ for lots of fun things to do with your pictures.

Kasey the Wonder Dog

Eight years ago today, we found out that Kasey had osteosarcoma. It was terrible news. The vets told us she had 4-6 months to live. We couldn't believe this had happened to our sweet doggie, who at the time was just a few months shy of her fourth birthday. We decided to have her leg amputated and that was it.....no chemo, etc. Well, eight years later, she's still here!!! She beat cancer. Luckily her cancer did not spread. However, Kasey is not getting around too well these days. We're having to assist her up and down the steps and she's scooting around the house now, just dragging her one back leg. She's 11 now and it's starting to show. She's had her share of other problems too.
She's always been David's dog. She is so loyal to him. In fact she loves him so much that in the past, if he was sleeping, and I was still awake, she would go to the bed and pant in his face until HE let her out. She still loves a good head rub and would sit there all day long if you could rub that long!

She has always been so tolerant with the girls. Here's a picture of Madeline when she was a little over a year old.....using Kasey as a giant pillow. I don't know how much longer Kasey will be around and I certainly dread the thought of putting another dog down. But one thing's for sure.....she's a sweet dog and we love her!

Someone please tell me...

...where the last six months have gone!!!!! Look at this sweet girl! Time is literally flying by. We have a 6 month old! Here we are already a week into 2009, and I haven't even posted. We've been busy going here and there, and just general everyday stuff with three kiddos. One of my New Year's resolutions is to finish Lydia's baby book and to get started on Margo's. Just in case that doesn't happen, I'll write a few things about Margo and what she's doing at six months.

*She weighed 15 lbs. 4.5 oz at her 6 month check up. She's the smallest of the three at this age, although the largest at birth. Hmmm.
*She's rolling over both ways now...why I even bother putting a blanket down on the floor for her is beyond me. And she's starting to push up on her hands and knees.
*She's very, very close to sitting all alone.
*She loves the song "Banana Phone". Her little face just lights up when she hears it.
*She's taking lots more interest in her toys. She especially loves a cup and the remote.
*She's reaching for and grabbing at EVERYTHING!! Just the other night, I had her in her high chair (I thought she was far enough away from the table). I turned away and then I heard Madeline yelling, "Mommy, Margo's got your salad". Yep, it was on the floor!
*She still thinks that Mommy should hold her 24/7!
In her first six months, she has been to the beach, camping, the State Fair, a Carolina football game and traveled from one end of NC to the other. I wouldn't say that she has slowed us down any!
Here is a picture of her while eating some carrots at dinner. She loved spreading the carrots all around on the tray. I have taken a "carrot face" picture with all of the girls.

Here's Lydia in August of 2004

And Madeline in September of 2002. I just noticed that M & L are wearing the same bib. I still have it....guess I should take another picture of Margo's carrot face with this bib to make it the "official" carrot face picture!

After the carrots, it was straight to the tub. Madeline has been begging for Margo to get in the tub with her and Lydia. So I got the tub ring, and snapped a few pics of all three in the tub--a first.

And of course, a silly pose. Margo was entertained, as usual. I know the next six months will fly by too, but I am trying to enjoy every minute of all the girls' milestones.....although some are more enjoyable than others!!
