Mountain Getaway

David and I enjoyed a child-free mountain getaway a few weeks ago.  We had originally planned to go skiing in West Virginia, but the forecast called for an 80% chance of rain for the day we planned to ski.  So we decided at the last minute to head up to the NC mountains.

We found this cozy cabin called Laurel Mountain Cabin through a cabin rental company that we had used before.
It had such a homey feel to it...cute little signs and cabin decor all around.

Notice the tin roof.  We woke up to rain on the tin roof one morning.  In this picture you can see the hot tub which is located right behind the cabin -just a few steps from the backdoor.
Cute boot birdfeeder.

Acorn birdfeeder on the front porch.

Inside the cabin
Love the stairs leading up to the loft area.  The steps are made from logs!

We had great internet connection.  The TV satellite was not working, but we were able to watch a DVD.  The first day there we stayed in our pj's until after lunch, bummed around, read, and watched a movie!  We didn't even leave the cabin until around 5pm.  We drove into Boone for dinner and  a movie.
On the front porch.  Firewood was provided for the fireplace.  David is a firebug, so he loved making fires each day.
Look at this cute checkers game.  The game pieces are are trees, moose, bears, etc.

We really enjoyed our mini-vacation.  It was good for the soul :)

Before returning home, David insisted that we go skiing.  I was not too keen on the idea, but I agreed to go.  Well, these were the conditions on the slopes at Sugar Mountain that day.

We had purchased 1/2 day tickets but ended up only staying for about two hours.  The slopes were awful.  We tried..... David told me that he should have listened to me ;)  Just glad he admitted that!

We had a great getaway and the girls were glad to see us.  They stayed in Jamesville with Grammie & PaPa and had a good time.  We picked them up on my birthday.

 39 and holding......
