Last Monday night (my birthday) we had planned to go out to dinner with some friends to celebrate mine and Stan's (our friend) 40th birthdays.  Much to our surprise, David and Kelly (Stan's wife) had planned a surprise birthday party for us at Heidi's (the place we were going to eat).  We were both surprised and had NO idea!

This was all David's idea.  He said he started planning before Christmas.  He and Kelly worked out all the details.  How cute is this cake they got us?  And it was delicious!

The two 40 year-olds on our actual birthday!  I really wished I had my Canon camera that night because it would have taken much better pictures than my cell phone, but that's ok.... David said he thought about bringing it but figured I would get suspicious and he didn't want to risk it.

With Kelly and Robin!  Robin helped with decorating and keeping the secret!

I was so happy to see so many good friends.  A picture of all the girls (except Cameron....she came a little later after this picture was taken).

David and his "OLD" lady ;-)

My co-worker and friend Patera and her husband even made the trip to JoCo to celebrate.  I was so glad they came.

Me and my good friend Sherry!

It was a great surprise party and I'm so proud of David for pulling it off.  He did great and I was truly surprised.  The last time I was surprised was on my 20th birthday in college when my suitemates surprised me in the dorm.  Yep, 20 years ago!  David was at that party.  That was one of our first times "hanging out"....several months before we even started dating.  I bet he had no idea he'd be throwing me a surprise party 20 years later!

Lordy, Lordy, I am 40!

Today is my 40th birthday!  Here's a picture of me when I was 17 months old.  Madeline was looking through a scrapbook the other day and said she thought this picture looks like her.

I woke up to some birthday decorations!

David got up and decorated before he went to work.

He loves to tease me about being old, but he's not THAT far behind me.

Margo woke up with a fever and hasn't been feeling the best.  She was feeling better mid morning but then started feeling bad again this afternoon.  She's in my lap as I blog.  Here are some pics that I quickly uploaded from my phone.  David and I enjoyed a weekend beach getaway in Nags
Head to celebrate my 40th.  I called it my 39 and holding getaway since I was still technically 39!
The girls got to spend the weekend with Grammie and PaPa and Annie spent the weekend with Grandma and Grandpa.

My mama made me a carrot cake!  YUM!

After we picked the girls up, we all ate at Deadwood.  That was yummy too!

Another picture of food...haha!  We did eat a lot of good food this weekend.  This was brunch yesterday from Stack'em High in Kill Devil Hills.

Self-portrait on the balcony of our oceanfront room (thanks, Groupon!).  Although it is bright and sunny in this picture, it was FREEZING!!!  All day Saturday we kept hearing about everyone getting snow.  It was just cold and windy at the beach.  That night it did snow a little teeny weeny bit.

Sunrise on the beach Sunday morning.

Saturday night we went to a Japanese Restaurant and I had to take a picture of our chef.  He was definitely a character.  Oh, my....

Taking a stroll on the beach Friday evening when we arrived.  It's a good thing we walked on the beach then because that was the warmest day (60s).  Saturday and Sunday were in the 30s, wind whipping like crazy and COLD!!!!

We took in two movies, did some shopping (David was very patient while I browsed all the good sales in Belk), ate lots of good food and had some quality time! And I read Big Mama's book (all on my kindle app on my iPhone) and loved it.

It was a great weekend and so far it's been a good day.  My birthday wish is that my baby girl starts feeling better.
Hello, 40!  I'm ready :-)

Kissing Booth!

Last weekend I was once again inspired by Pinterest and made a kissing booth for some Valentine's themed pictures.   I used a tri-fold board that Madeline had used for a school project, some fabric, empty wrapping paper rolls, ribbon, and some other decorations laying around the house.  This project cost me nothing but my time.
And here's a picture of my favorite valentines.  I honestly thought I was going to lose my mind getting these pictures.  This was almost as hard as the Christmas picture with the dog.  Anyhow, I got some cute pictures.

I really need to edit the following pictures and brighten them up a bit, but I have to strike while the iron is hot when blogging.  So here they are straight out of the camera:
Individual pictures were much easier than a shot of the three of them.  Here's Lydia half-way giggling at something.

Miss Margo with her signature flower headband.

Madeline!  She had already gone in and changed clothes, so this one was definitely a quick shot.
I got the kissing booth out again today for Brayden and Margo.  Margo was not feeling the love....

See?  Drama queen!  Oh, my!
And two minutes later.....Happy again!

Kissing Cousins!
Hope everyone has a LOVE-ly day!
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

iPhone Picture Dump

Here are some pictures from the past several weeks in no particular order.

Margo helped me make oreo truffles over the weekend.  David's work was having a Relay for Life fundraiser.  They bagged up the truffles (6 in a bag for $3 each) and he said they sold out in 30 minutes!
David has started taking guitar lessons!  He didn't want me to take this picture, but I did anyway.  That just adds to our busy extracurricular activity schedule.  At least he can drive himself to lessons.  He's doing well so far and is even practicing.  Maybe I'll get serenaded on Valentine's?!?

This is a recipe I found on Pinterest and made last week...Roast Beef dippers.  They were yummy!

Annie got a bath last week!  Unfortunately Margo had a crazy coughing fit one day and threw up.  Annie was in the line of fire and got thrown up on.  So she got an emergency bath.

It's Girl Scout Cookie time!  Madeline and Lydia worked at the cookie booth at Carroll Pharmacy one Saturday afternoon.

Here are the girls playing in the ice that we got several weeks ago.  It doesn't look like we are going to get any real snow this winter.  Oh well, they made the most of it.

One night the girls were all over me, fighting for mama time.  I commented that David was the only one who wasn't fighting to sit in my lap.  He was playing with the girls and jumped in my lap.  They got a huge kick out of this!

Lydia had a sick day a couple of weeks ago.  Annie was a good nurse to Lydia, making sure she was protected!

Speaking of sickness, Madeline had flu-like symptoms the middle of January and was downright pitiful.  High fever, chills, and aches were her symptoms.  She missed three days of school and then shared with her mother ;-)  Glad that's over!

Annie got a new cousin!  Leslie and Greg adopted a dog and her name is Chloe.   This pic was taken on the day Annie and Chloe met.  I hope they can have more doggie playdates as the warmer weather approaches.
One day a few weeks ago, David and I took Margo and Brayden to Mucho Mexico.  Brayden found out he loved cheese quesadillas.  We all got so tickled at the way he says Mucho Mexico.  He liked it so much, that he talked his family in to eating there the very next night!  He and Margo are like peas and carrots!  They do love each other.

Margo channeling her inner Jackie-O!

I saw this picture on Pinterest and keep threatening to do this to Madeline and Lydia when they are fighting like cats and dogs.  In fact, I threatened doing this several times while we were at Disney World.  HaHa!

Riding in Style!

Last Friday night we got to ride in a limousine!  We helped Lauren celebrate her birthday with a limo ride to Durham.  We went to a girl salon, had pizza and cupcakes and then rode back to Smithfield.  All the girls loved it!  They were so excited.

The girls got their hair done in fancy braids and up-do's and then sprayed with glitter hairspray.

They got their nails painted.

They decorated picture frames as their souvenirs.

Lauren and her girlfriends!

Posing outside the salon: Peek-a-Do!

All the girls (including big sisters Mary Margaret & Madeline and the mama chaperones) posing in front of the limo.

The birthday girl!

To say they had a blast would be an understatement!  They were so funny, especially on the ride home.  They were playing American Idol...taking turns being contestants and judges.  British accents and all!
